New Staff Team and New Trustees join Healthwatch Kingston

New Staff Team and New Trustees join Healthwatch Kingston

Kingston’s local independent charitable champion for high quality health and social care services has engaged new members of staff and recruited new Trustees.

Healthwatch Kingston is contracted by the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, which made the appointment earlier this year.

Following the appointment, trustee chair Grahame Snelling and trustees Nigel Spalding and Liz Meerabeau commenced the necessary recruitment for the addition of the necessary new team members.

“I am delighted that we have been able to recruit such a strong staff team and group of new trustees to deliver our work in Kingston. We are determined in this time of challenge for health and social care services to represent consumer views clearly to the Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group. We would encourage anyone in Kingston who is passionate about health and social care services and wants to get involved in what we do, to contact the team through our website,” Snelling said.

Stephen Bitti (Manager) joins Healthwatch Kingston Upon Thames with over 20 years’ work experience in health and social care within the public, private and voluntary sectors. Roles have included chief executive of a national patient group, delivery manager at the Department of Health and leading commissioning reviews for various Local Authorities.

Adelaide Boakye-Yiadom and Laila Awda (Projects and Outreach Officers) complete the new staff team of three.
Adelaide has 15 years’ local experience in roles across Kingston that include both voluntary and statutory working with vulnerable older people, carers and disabled residents.
For the past 8 years Laila has worked to empower the local community to navigate and make the best use of the complex welfare system, and has deep experience supporting children and young people with a range of special needs.

As well as establishing the new staff team, the Healthwatch Kingston Board has also expanded with the appointment of three new Trustees.

William Ostrom joins Healthwatch Kingston, bringing broad experience of communications gained in regulatory and commercial fields. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Trustee for the Public Service Broadcasting Trust and Freeman of the City of London with the Company of Information Technologists, he has particular interest in the development of care for those with challenging mental health, and in helping young people find their voice in the community.

James Waugh is a qualified solicitor. He completed his training contract at a large commercial law firm before working in the voluntary sector where he held project development and fundraising roles. Currently, he is at the energy regulator OFGEM, where he oversees enforcement investigations against energy companies. James has a particular interest in autism and ADHD in young people.

And Nike Alesbury brings a range of engagement and involvement experience from the voluntary sector. Most recently heading up the Volunteering and Research Engagement functions at Cancer Research UK, Nike is particularly passionate about public engagement with medical research and increasing access to involvement.
The team at Healthwatch Kingston look forward to continuing to serve the community as Kingston’s local independent charitable champion for high quality health and social care services. Using its statutory powers, the charity works to involve as many people in the community as possible to ensure local voices are clearly heard by those who commission, deliver and regulate services.
