Healthwatch England media update: NHS plan/hospital discharge media coverage

Healthwatch England's response to the government's plan to help recover urgent and emergency care services, reduce waiting times, and improve patient experience.

One of its stated aims is to ensure people have a smooth transition out of hospital, reducing the chances of readmission while also potentially reducing long-term demand on social care.

Healthwatch England's National Director Louise Ansari’s response to the announcement is featured in this Daily Mail article and may appear in other media. Louise commented:“Seeing people in their own homes and getting those who need hospital treatment back to where they live faster is a very positive development.”

And in an interview with BBC Breakfast yesterday ahead of the publication, our Head of Policy, Public Affairs and Research Jacob Lant outlined what is currently going wrong when it comes to hospital discharge and the need to get it right to ease pressures on hospitals.
