Marie's story

I’m a mum to a fifteen-year-old daughter, and I work in mental health for the charity Mind. I also live with Bipolar Disorder. In my spare time I love spending time with dogs and drinking tea.
Marie

Hello there, my name is Marie.

My Bipolar Disorder means that I can suffer from low and high moods. When I am low and feeling depressed, all I want to do is sleep and my thoughts can become dark and intrusive.

When my mood is high, I may feel manic, this can mean that my thoughts race, I sleep a lot less and I may have difficulty staying focused and making rational decisions.

Over the last 12 years I’ve become really good monitoring my moods, using tools such as therapy and medication, and at times exercise, to keep myself feeling as balanced as possible.

I have also built positive & supportive relationships with friends which helps me to know that I never have to suffer alone or in silence.

Finding my purpose in life working in mental health in a role that I feel passionate about has given me a focus each day, which also really helps with my mental wellbeing.

I also enjoy drinking far too much tea, going on shopping trips with my daughter & walking other people’s dogs whenever possible.

Thanks for reading, and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day.
